The Adventurers Archer Class Guide
Backline pierce striker — Double Shot, pins, and long-range shots that scale with Agility.
Archer is the backline pierce class in The Adventurers. Bows scale with Agility, not Strength. You want two hexes of buffer in front of you, a clear lane, and enough energy from Resolve to fire Double Shot without going idle. Archer is not on the default Paladin / Wizard / Cleric start. It is the ranged seat of the classic trio with Warrior and Thief. Custom creation can still hire an Archer first if you want that loop immediately.
Agility modifies pierce damage, block, and parry. Vitality is your only real health pool (ten health per point), and Archer does not want to test it. Resolve still buys energy at ten per point; Massive Shot and Burst Shot are expensive on purpose. For grid spacing, combat is the rulebook. For roster theory, use the tier list and party comps.
Role and primary stats
Role: backline pierce striker and ranged control. You soften the pack before melee contact, pin runners, and later blind or sleep a problem target so Warrior does not have to chase. You are not a tank. Better Alone even pays you for having no allies adjacent — thirty percent damage resistance to attacks when you are standing by yourself — so crowding the Archer hex is usually a mistake.
Primary stat: Agility. Secondary: Resolve so you can actually fire the expensive shots. Tertiary: Vitality enough to survive one stray hit, and Luck if you are building around Aimed Shot and Hit windows. Strength is leftover gold on this class.
Signature abilities by level
Default — Double Shot (Action). Fires two arrows at a single target. This is your basic pressure: two rolls, one focus, no fancy setup.
Level 2. Aimed Shot (Action) is a guaranteed critical on a target. Pin (Action) temporarily stops an enemy from moving. Eagle Focus (Bonus) increases damage by 25% on attacks. Early Archer is either a sniper (Eagle Focus plus Aimed Shot) or a traffic cop (Pin so Warrior and Thief close).
Level 4. Dodge (Bonus) increases dodge chance by 25%. Snap (Bonus) removes a debilitating effect. Massive Shot (Action) is a massive arrow pull that uses up a lot of energy. Dodge plus Better Alone later is the survival package. Massive Shot is a boss button, not a trash button.
Level 6. Mark (Bonus) marks an enemy and increases damage by 20%. Stun (Action) stuns an enemy, preventing attack and movement. Long Shot (Action) fires an arrow twice as far as a normal arrow. Long Shot is why Archer can sit farther back than Wizard’s comfortable range. Mark is the focus-fire call for the whole party.
Level 8. Poisoned Arrow (Action) poisons a target on hit for damage over time. Sleep (Action) forces a target to be unable to attack until it is attacked. Burst Shot (Action) fires a shot that hits adjacent targets. Sleep is the one you use when you need a caster or a heavy to skip a turn without starting a pile-on. Burst Shot is your small-cluster tool; it is not Wizard Fireball.
Level 10. Barbed Arrow (Action) applies a bleed on hit. Blinding Shot (Action) fires an arrow that applies a blind. Better Alone (Area Influence) grants 30% damage resistance to attacks when no allies are around. Late Archer is a control sniper who wants a private hex and a marked, blinded, or sleeping priority target.
Positioning
Back rank, not the same tile as Cleric if you can help it, and not adjacent to Warrior’s swing arc. Better Alone wants empty neighboring hexes. High ground still helps accuracy in this game’s hex combat; take it when the map offers it. If a thief-type enemy is walking around the flank, do not heroically step forward — Pin, Stun, or Sleep them and let Warrior Come At Me. Long Shot exists so you can stay put.
Party fit
Archer loves a Warrior or Paladin who actually holds the first rank. Thief on the opposite flank means your Burst Shot and their Gang Up are not competing for the same tile. Wizard already covers clusters; Archer should Mark and delete the leftover officer, not race Wizard for AoE. Cleric keeps you alive when someone does break through. Druid Rotting Vines and Archer Pin both stop movement — pick one per target so you are not stacking redundant roots.
Archer is honest: from a safe hex it is relentless pierce. From a flanked hex it dies fast. It is easier than Thief because you do not have to occupy the enemy’s side, and harder than Warrior because one failed screen ends you. If you skipped the default Cleric, bring potions and a Paladin Lay On Hands, or accept that Archer will spend Snap and Dodge as the heal.
General ability suggestions
Hard To Touch (20% harder to hit from ranged attacks) is aimed at the same threat that already hunts you. Quickness adds 10% dodge. Quick Feet adds one movement in combat for repositioning after a flank appears. Locked In adds 10% critical chance on top of Aimed Shot. Weapon Mastery Bow is the obvious level 10 general pick: 10% damage and accuracy with a bow. Never Tired keeps you at least at 50% energy when a fight starts, which matters for opening Double Shot plus Eagle Focus. Scout is useful if this Archer is also your event reader. Skip Shield Mastery and Two Hands Better Than One.
Open the Characters Hub for the other seven. If you want the classic wedge, Warrior in front, this class behind, Thief on the side, then recruit Cleric when the potions run out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about The Adventurers tactical RPG.
What stat does Archer scale with?
Agility for pierce damage, plus block and parry. Raise Resolve for energy (10 per point) so Massive Shot and Burst Shot are affordable, and Vitality so one hit does not end the fight.
Is Archer in the default starting party?
No. Default start is Paladin, Wizard, and Cleric. Archer is the classic-trio ranged seat with Warrior and Thief. Custom start can pick Archer immediately.
What does Better Alone do?
Better Alone is a level 10 area influence: if no allies are around the Archer, attacks against you take 30% damage resistance. Do not huddle on the Archer hex.
Aimed Shot versus Double Shot?
Double Shot fires two arrows at one target. Aimed Shot is a guaranteed critical. Use Double Shot for pressure, Aimed Shot when a marked or low target must die this turn.
How should Archer position?
Back rank with empty adjacent hexes, on high ground when the map allows. Pin, Stun, or Sleep anything that walks around the tank. See combat.
Which general abilities fit Archer?
Weapon Mastery Bow, Hard To Touch, Quickness, Quick Feet, Locked In, and Never Tired. Skip shield and two-handed melee generals.
