The Adventurers Warlock Class Guide

Demons, skeletons, and Soul Leech — an energy-hungry summoner with extra magic resistance.

Warlock Class Guide

Warlock is the unholy summoner in The Adventurers. Combat bonus: increased magic resistance. Summons use the Warlock’s energy until the end of combat. Summon health and damage scale with Resolve. Energy is ten per Resolve point; magic damage also rides Resolve, including 1.0’s 25% magic damage bonus. This class is hungry. If you open Summon Imp, Summon Skeleton Warrior, and still want Unholy Nova, you will feel it.

Warlock is not on the default Paladin / Wizard / Cleric start. Custom can pick it. It is not a shapeshifter, not a premier healer, and not a frontline Paladin. Soul Leech drains life from a target each turn. Unholy Nova unleashes a wave of necrotic energy that damages all enemies in range while sacrificing health. Hex Of Weakness, Dark Pact, Curse Of Decay, and Mark Of The Damned are the curse-line picks at levels 2, 4, 6, and 8 — the third option beside a demon summon and a skeleton summon. Compare support seats on Support Comparison. Tactics: combat. Rosters: party comps and the tier list.

Role and primary stats

Role: back-to-mid summoner and leech caster. You put a demon or a skeleton on a hex, keep Soul Leech ticking, and spend the leftover bar on a hex or on Nova. The extra magic resistance is why Warlock can stand closer to enemy casters than Wizard likes to. It is not an invitation to occupy the first rank.

Primary stat: Resolve — energy, magic, and summon scaling. Secondary: Vitality because Unholy Nova sacrifices health and summons do not make you thick. Tertiary: Luck if you like leech crits. Strength is the wrong tree.

Signature abilities by level

Default — Soul Leech (Action). Drains life from a target each turn. This is your personal sustain and your basic pressure. Start it early; it is a clock, not a finisher.

Level 2. Summon Imp (Action) summons an imp that uses the Warlock’s energy until the end of combat. Summon Skeleton Warrior (Action) summons a skeleton warrior on the same energy rule. Hex Of Weakness is the curse-line pick at this gate, beside those two summons. Early Warlock is a fork: cheap demon, cheap skeleton, or the hex instead of a body.

Level 4. Summon Starved Demon (Action) and Summon Skeleton Archer (Action) both last until combat ends and both drink your energy. Dark Pact is the level 4 curse-line pick beside them. Skeleton Archer is how Warlock gets a backline body without hiring a second Archer. Starved Demon is the nastier melee pet. Do not summon both unless Quick Breaths is already on the sheet.

Level 6. Summon Wing Demon (Action) and Summon Skeleton Mage (Action) follow the same energy rule. Curse Of Decay is the level 6 curse-line pick. Skeleton Mage is your extra caster hex. Wing Demon is the mobile demon at this gate. Decay is for the fight where you want a curse more than another mouth on the bar.

Level 8. Summon Warlock Demon (Action) and Summon Skeleton Hero (Action) are the expensive mid-late bodies, still on your energy until combat ends. Mark Of The Damned is the level 8 curse-line pick. Hero skeleton is a front-hex occupier. Warlock Demon is the named demon at this gate. Mark is the focus-fire curse when Paladin already has Judgment’s Burden elsewhere — or when Paladin is not in the party.

Level 10. Summon Spiked Demon (Action) and Summon Skeleton Giant (Action) are the endgame bodies, same energy rule, same Resolve scaling on health and damage. Unholy Nova (Action) unleashes a wave of necrotic energy that damages all enemies in range, sacrificing health. Nova is a cluster nuke with a self-cost. Cleric Mend Wounds can patch a living Warlock afterward. Cleric cannot raise you if Nova plus return fire puts you into bleed-out.

Positioning

Mid-back, closer than Archer, farther than Paladin. Park skeletons on the side the Thief is not using. Park demons where they can actually be attacked so your magic resistance and their bodies soak instead of Wizard. Soul Leech wants a target that will live long enough to tick; do not leech the 5-health goblin Thief is about to Triple Threat. Unholy Nova wants a clump. If Wizard already Fireballed the clump, save Nova.

Party fit

Warlock plus Cleric is the safest version of this class: you sacrifice health on Nova, they Divine Mending you while you are still alive. Warlock plus Paladin gives a front rank the skeletons can stand beside. Warlock plus Druid is two summoners; it is a lot of bodies and a lot of empty energy bars. Warlock plus Warrior is simple: you Mark or hex, they Reckless. Warlock without a healer is a leech-and-pet plan that falls over the first time Nova plus a stun lands.

Warlock is honest: unique pets, unique resist, unique energy tax. It is harder to play well than Warrior or Cleric. It is not a default-start class because the game does not want your first hour spent counting summon upkeep. If you wanted nature pets and extra energy recovered, that is Druid. If you wanted dark pets and extra magic resist, this is the page.

General ability suggestions

Quick Breaths is the summoner’s general. Never Tired so turn one can be a summon plus Soul Leech. Mental Toughness stacks with the class magic-resistance bonus. Still In This as a once-per-combat killing-blow survival. Hard To Kill if Nova plus chip is putting you near bleed-out. Weapon Mastery Staff. Gifted if this Warlock is also the experience sponge. Skip Shield Mastery and Two Hands Better Than One.

See the Characters Hub for the other seven. If you are hiring this seat instead of Wizard, accept that you swapped cluster spells for bodies on hexes — and keep Cleric in the roster.
