The Adventurers Thief Class Guide
Flanking dagger striker — crits, poison, and gang-up math on the side hexes.
Thief is the flanking pierce striker in The Adventurers. Daggers scale with Agility. You do not belong on the Warrior’s tile and you do not belong two ranks behind the Cleric. You belong on a side hex where Gang Up, In This Together, and Finish Them can actually fire. Thief is the third seat of the classic trio with Warrior and Archer. It is not on the default Paladin / Wizard / Cleric start. Custom creation can still lead with a Thief if you like high-risk openers.
Agility is pierce, block, and parry. Vitality is the thin health bar (ten per point). Resolve is the energy bar (ten per point) that Burst Of Adrenaline can refill at a brutal cost: restore all energy, lose 50% of health. That button is a comeback, not a rotation. Hex geometry is in combat. Sample lineups are in party comps. Rankings are on the tier list.
Role and primary stats
Role: flanking striker and disruptor. You apply poison, sand, hamstring, and distract, then convert low-health targets into guaranteed crits. You are not a tank. Just Kidding is a once-style safety net that leaves you on 5 health after a killing blow — it is not a license to stand in Wide Swing range.
Primary stat: Agility. Secondary: Luck if you are building the crit package (Finish Them, Hit The Mark, Gang Up, We Finish This). Tertiary: Resolve for energy and Vitality so Burst Of Adrenaline does not put you on the floor. Strength is the wrong tree for daggers.
Signature abilities by level
Default — Double Stab (Action). Two quick attacks. This is your basic dual poke, the dagger version of Archer’s Double Shot.
Level 2. Poison Blade (Action) adds a poison effect to your main attack for 5 turns. Throw Sand (Bonus) throws sand into an enemy’s eyes, reducing block, dodge, and parry chances by 50%. Gang Up (Bonus) increases critical chance for each ally around a target. Early Thief is a setup class: sand the defenses, poison the clock, stand where an ally is already touching the same foe.
Level 4. Finish Them (Bonus) makes targets at 30% health automatically crit. Elusive (Bonus) gives a 50% chance to crit on your next attack after you dodge. Hamstring (Bonus) stops an enemy’s movement. Finish Them is why Thief wants Archer Mark and Warrior Wound on the same body. Hamstring is your pin without spending an Archer action.
Level 6. Hit The Mark (Bonus) guarantees a critical on the next attack. Tricksy (Bonus) increases dodge chance by 50%. Burst Of Adrenaline (Bonus) restores all energy but you lose 50% of health. Tricksy plus Elusive is a dodge-into-crit loop. Burst Of Adrenaline is for the turn you must Triple Threat and you are empty — pay the health, then get healed by a living Cleric, not a fantasy resurrection.
Level 8. With A Twist (Action) twists the blade and applies a bleed. Distract (Bonus) forces an enemy to stop targeting you if someone else is nearby. We Finish This (Action) applies a poison effect that lets all party members only perform critical hits. We Finish This is a party-wide burst window. Call it when Warrior and Archer are in range, not when you are solo on a side hex.
Level 10. Triple Threat (Action) is three quick dagger attacks. Just Kidding (Bonus) leaves you with 5 health if a killing blow lands on you. In This Together (Passive) grants 10% bonus damage for every ally touching the enemy. Late Thief is a pile-on specialist: get two friends on the same target, Triple Threat, and spend We Finish This if the bar is still standing.
Positioning
Side hex, preferably opposite the Archer so you are not sharing a choke with Warrior’s Wide Swing. In This Together wants allies touching the same enemy — that means you close after Warrior has planted, not before. Distract only works if someone else is nearby to inherit the threat; do not Distract into an empty room. If the map is a narrow hall, Thief is awkward; consider sitting one hex off the hall and Hamstringing whoever tries to walk past.
Party fit
Thief plus Warrior is the classic: tank holds, you wrap. Thief plus Archer is mark-and-crit. Thief plus Cleric is how Burst Of Adrenaline stays a joke instead of a wipe — Cleric heals living allies; if you already hit bleed-out, Divine Mending will not stand you back up. Paladin Righteous Command (enemy attack −50%) makes Distract safer, because the tank is still the better target. Wizard Sleep and Thief Hamstring both freeze a problem; do not double-lock one goblin while the ogre walks free. Druid Rotting Vines is another immobilize; coordinate.
Thief is honest: the highest single-target spike in the classic trio, and the easiest class to play badly. If you stand in front, you are a worse Warrior. If you stand in back, you are a worse Archer. If you stand on the side with friends touching the target, you are the reason the target died this round.
General ability suggestions
Quick Feet for the extra combat movement that makes flanks real. Quickness for dodge, which feeds Elusive. Locked In for 10% more crit. Just One Arm for 15% dodge with a one-handed weapon and no shield. Weapon Mastery Dagger for 10% damage and accuracy. Stun Immunity if the enemies you hunt love stuns. Hard To Touch if their archers are the ones deleting you. Skip Two Hands Better Than One and Shield Mastery unless you have abandoned daggers, which you should not.
The Characters Hub is the full eight-class list. If this is your first Thief, keep Warrior on the door and do not open Burst Of Adrenaline until a healer is actually in the party.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about The Adventurers tactical RPG.
What stats should Thief raise?
Agility for pierce, Luck for crits, Resolve for energy, and enough Vitality that Burst Of Adrenaline (restore all energy, lose 50% health) does not drop you.
Is Thief a default starting class?
No. Default start is Paladin, Wizard, and Cleric. Thief is the classic-trio flanker with Warrior and Archer. Custom can pick Thief from the start.
How does Gang Up work with In This Together?
Gang Up raises crit chance per ally around the target. In This Together adds 10% damage per ally touching that enemy. Both want you on a piled target, not solo.
What does We Finish This do?
We Finish This is a level 8 action: a poison effect that lets all party members only perform critical hits. Use it as a party burst window, not a solo opener.
Does Just Kidding resurrect Thief?
No. Just Kidding leaves you on 5 health after a killing blow. It is a last-hit safety net, not a raise from death or bleed-out.
Where should Thief stand?
On a side hex after the tank has planted, so allies can touch the same enemy. See combat and party comps.
